J’avais déjà vu la bande annonce quelque part dans un cinéma d’un réseau très connu avec 3 lettres. Avant d’assister à la projection, on m’avait prévenu d’avoir un morale d’acier avant d’entrer dans la salle. Du coup, je me suis muni d’un petit Nabil, ado de 17 ans, plein d’entrain et d’énergie. Mais après la projection, il semblerait que même la fougue adolescente peut être vaincue par ce film.

The Magdalene Sisters, basé sur une histoire vraie, est un film sombre qui se focalise sur le destin de 3 jeunes filles, internées dans un asile de travail tenu par des sœurs de Marie-Madeleine particulièrement dures et ignobles. Les filles qui y sont amenées sont souvent injustement " accusée " de pécher. Il faut préciser que l'histoire se situe dans l'Irlande de l'après guerre. Rose, Margaret et Bernadette sont toutes trois envoyées là non pas pour leur péchés, mais plus pour soulager le poids de la honte familiale ou de la communauté.
Lorsqu'elles arrivent et sont reçues par sœur Bridget, les conditions de vie données par cette dernière rendent déjà compte du dramatique de la situation. Mais le coup de grâce vient à la fin du film (vous verrez).

Peter Mullan, réalisateur de cette œuvre difficile a reçu le prix du Lion d'Or à Venise. Auparavant acteur (et pas mauvais le bougre), Peter s'était déjà mis à la réalisation de long métrage : Orphans, un film assez sombre aussi sur les peurs individuelles et la recherche de la paix intérieure.

A noter : a la remise des prix à Venise, Peter a du s'expliquer sur le fait que ce film n'était pas contre l'église, mais cela n'a pas empêcher l'institution religieuse - qui n'a toujours pas indemniser ces femmes, dont la plupart sont encore en vie, pour le travail qu'elles ont fourni - de juger cet œuvre comme " anti-clérical " !

Tres bien fait! Le réalisateur a évité prendre la voie du mélodrame facil pour arracher les larmes! Non. C'est une histoire serieuse, bien racontée, et angoissante!

J'avais une très mauvaise opinion des religieux bien que travaillant avec beaucoup d'entre eux aujourd'hui en milieu associatif.
Ce film ne fait que confirmer mes pensées sur l'église et les pseudo religieux qui l'a constitue.
Cruels, intolérant, égoïste, interessés, frustrés et ivre de pouvoir et certainement moins religieux que moi même qui ne le suis pas dans l'idée.
Secte ou église catholique quelle différence ???

je ne pense pas qu'il faille mettre ce film en quelconque relation avec l'Eglise.Ce qu'il faut,c'est voir la souffrance de ces jeunes femmes,la partager et s'en indigner;ça;ce film magistralement mené nous le fait ressentir du début à la fin.
